Ghost guns, PMFs, and 80-Percenters?: Things that go Bang in the Night
Recently, there has been a lot of public attention directed to the subject of “Ghost Guns” -referring to homemade guns, often assembled from a kit containing various parts. The “Ghost” moniker was applied because these firearms do not bear serial numbers which are needed in order to track their origin and history. For greater awareness of these types of guns and their impact on public safety check out this informative article.
A Shared Purpose Wins Every Time!
Seeking justice for victims, resolution for their families, and peace for the communities impacted by gun violence requires the alignment and coalescing of the energies and capabilities of the investigators in the street, the technicians in the lab, and the prosecutors in the courtroom, all while carrying out what the public expects from law enforcement when addressing gun violence. Strategies needed to combat the blight of gun violence can sometimes be hampered by the unintended consequence of the specialization that underpins law enforcement in general. Specialization can often result in silos that prevent communication, coordination, and collaboration. Advancing robust crime gun intelligence strategies requires many “handoffs and handshakes” among partners and the public who must have trust in one another to leverage each other’s capabilities.
Success in this arena will require that we all think and act together so that armed and violent criminals cannot operate with impunity.

Engine out - the “helo” was going down. The SEAL Team remained silent as they plummeted toward their death.
